Originally from the Beara Peninsula in West Cork, he was one of nine children, all of whom were musicians, and became an influential figure in the tradition, earning TG4’s Cumadóir na Bliana award in 2004.

Richie will respose this evening in Daly’s Mortuary Chapel, Francis Street, Ennis, from 5pm to 7pm, with funeral mass at Ennis Cathedral on Wednesday at 12:30pm, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium at 2pm.

He moved to Ennis in recent years, and presenter of Clare FM’s West Wind, Lissycasey native Joan Hanrahan, says whether he was playing traditional music, pop, rock or blues, it was “all music to him”.
