Revolving Door Recruitment Pattern Leading To Foster Carer Shortages In Mid West

A Tusla social worker insists a revolving door recruitment pattern has led to chronic foster carer shortages in Tusla’s Mid West services.

A new report from the Health Inspection and Quality Authority has found Tusla foster care services in the Mid West non-compliant in the area of matching carers with children and young people.

With approximately 404 carers looking after 525 children in the region, this year’s National Fostering Week, which commences today, is aimed at addressing “the shortage in foster carers across Ireland”.

Alternative Care Manager with Tusla, Ann Neville, says numbers are stagnating because the same number of people are being recruited and retiring each year.
