A decision on a possible strike action by nursing staff at the Mid West Region’s main hospital should be known later today.
Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation decided to ballot their members following the HSE’s decision to shut down 25 beds and halt overtime and agency staffing.
Yesterday figures from the INMO revealed record overcrowding at hospitals nationwide in August which the union blames on the closure of beds nationwide, including at Ennis General, Saint Joseph’s and Dooradoyle.
Nurses have long since warned that conditions at the emergency department at Limerick Regional Hospital are at breaking point claiming conditions are dangerous and unsafe for staff and patients alike.
The HSE decision to close beds comes as it tries to reduce a major deficit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital
