Response From Transport Minister To Calls From Bernard Lucas Expected This Month

A response from the Transport Minister on whether a representative body will be established for coastguard volunteers isn’t expected until the end of the month.

It follows a meeting between Minister Shane Ross and the husband of tragic volunteer Caitríona Lucas, who was the first Coast Guard member to lose their life while on duty.

A recent report from the Marine Casualty Investigation Board was critical of safety aspects of the operation she was involved in near Kilkee and identified deficiencies with the vessel and management systems within the organisation.
