Report Shows Poverty Costs State €4.5 Billion Annually

The Clare President of Saint Vincent de Paul says money must be allocated properly if poverty is to be dealt with.

A new report has shown that the knock-on effect of poverty in Ireland costs the state an estimated 4.5 billion euro every year.

‘The Hidden Cost of Poverty’ is a report commissioned by the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, argues that an investment to reduce levels of poverty could save money in the long run, as well as being better for peoples’ lives.
