A new report has shone a light on the positive economic impact of public transport connectivity within a Clare town.
The Western Development Commission’s Sustainable Mobility Index for 2024 has named Shannon as the second-best town in the western region for public transport accessibility and connectivity.
The report, which covers 40 rural towns, also gives the Clare industrial settlement the highest rating for access to services and social facilities while it’s risen to third place for readiness for low carbon transition and has come eighth for access to employment and economic opportunities.
Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, lead author of the report, Policy Analyst at the WDC Dr Helen McHenry, says having reliable public transport links allow a broader cohort of people to contribute to the local economy.
