A number of serious failings in Ireland’s child protection system have been revealed in an audit report published today.
The audit of Garda cases where powers to remove a child from their parents were used says there needs to be an overhaul of the Pulse computer system and better training of Gardaí.

It also criticises the use of Garda stations and hospitals as an initial ‘place of safety’ for children removed from families.
Professor Geoffrey Shannon carried out the audit – he says, while there are failings in the system, the real message is for society and parents.
