The average rent for existing tenancies in Clare jumped by over 7% last year.
The latest quarterly report from the Residential Tenancies Board shows homes in the Killaloe Electoral Area experienced the greatest price hikes.
There are currently 3,669 private tenancies registered with the RTB in Clare, while a further 896 provided by Approved Housing Bodies make up this county’s rental stock.
When calculating rental prices, the watchdog uses a system called ‘standardised average rents’ , which takes account of the changing mix of properties in an area.
Between July and August last year, this figure was at €943 for existing tenancies, which is an increase of 7.8% or €70 in the last twelve months and significantly above the national average of 4.7%.
The average price for open market or newly advertised tenancies in the same timeframe was €1,175.
In Kilrush, existing tenants are now paying an average of €680 per month, for renters in Killaloe, this figure has reached €929, which at 14% is the largest yearly increase in the county.
In Ennistymon the average rent for existing tenants is now €780 while in Ennis its €976.
Shannon remains the most expensive place to rent in the county, with tenants in-situ now paying €1.078 monthly.
