The cost of renting a home for existing tenants in Clare has continued to rise over the past year.
However, the latest quarterly report from the Residential Tenancies Board, which draws on data from registered tenancies, shows there’s been a slight reduction in the monthly cost for new renters.
Figures contained in the Residential Tenancies Board’s quarterly report, published today, show new tenants were paying 1,118 euro on average between January and March this year, which is down 5% on the previous quarter.
It’s only a marginal reduction of two euro on the same period in 2024.
Though data hasn’t been published for the Ennistymon, Killaloe and Kilrush electoral areas, the report shows it was more expensive to rent in the Shannon area, where the standarised average rent stood at 1,278 euro, while in Ennis, the figure was 1,155 euro.
Rents are on the rise for existing tenants, who were forking out 968 euro a month on average, compared to 921 euro in the first three months of 2024.
Nationally, eight counties recorded double digit percent increases over one year, including Donegal, Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Limerick, Monaghan, Roscommon and Tipperary, with Dublin seeing slower growth at just over three percent.
The number of registered private tenancies rose by just over three percent year-on-year in quarter two, while notices of termination increased by 17 percent to 4,728.
