Rent increases will be capped in Dublin and Cork next week, and in commuter towns and cities including Limerick and Galway from as early as February, if the legislation is passed in the Dáil today.
Last night a problem emerged when an error was noticed – that would have resulted in rent rises of eight percent in the pressure zones of Dublin and Cork – rather than the four percent intended.
The Housing Minister then moved an amendment to ensure the issue was fixed but Simon Coveney said they would double check the legislation overnight.
