People living in flood-prone areas could be offered up to 200 thousand euro to move house.

According to the Irish Times, a memo will be brought to tomorrow’s cabinet meeting outlining the idea, which would target specific homeowners whose property is not sustainable, who can’t get insurance and who have no other alternative.

Junior Minister with responsibility for the area Sean Canney told the paper he’s hopeful of agreement amongst ministers, and he’s stressed that it’s a voluntary scheme and ‘not everyone will want to move’.
