Relief As Sanctions Officially Lifted At Aughinish Alumina

Workers at one of the MidWest’s largest employers can breathe easy, with news that sanctions on its parent company that threatened their jobs have officially been lifted.

The US imposed the sanctions on Aughinish Alumina’s Russian parent company last year, which it was feared would put the 460 employees at risk of losing their jobs.

Around 200 contractors were also set to be impacted – but in December, it was announced that the US would lift the restrictions on the Russian firm Rusal, after it agreed to significant restructuring.
