Rejection of calls for independent probe into penalty points matter

The Tánaiste  and the Garda Commissioner have both rejected calls for an independent inquiry into the quashing of penalty points.

Eamon Gilmore says any outstanding matters of concern from the report will be rooted out by the Oireachtas Justice Committee.

The review – conducted by the Assistant Garda Commissioner – found no evidence of any criminality or corruption.

Commissioner Martin Callinan says the investigation was fair and thorough.
