The deputy leader of Fine Gael has defended his appointment to the post by Enda Kenny.

James Reilly says his position as a Senator leaves him with more time to devote to the party than a sitting TD particularly given the tight majority the Government holds in the Dáil.
Critics say the deputy leader of a major political party should hold a Dáil seat – however Mr Reilly lost his seat in the last General Election.
His appointment is being used by the Taoiseach's opponents as another reason for him to step down.
But James Reilly says the decision makes sense
