Clare’s electorate head to the polls today to cast their ballots in referendums on the future of the Seanad and the introduction of a court of criminal appeal.
In all, about 89,000 people in the county of Clare are entitled to vote today, including 4500 in the Clare communities of Parteen and Corbaly who cast their ballots in the constituency of Limerick City.
There are 151 voting booths across the constituency of Clare, a 14% reduction on previous elections. Voting began at 7 o’clock this morning, and people have until 10 o’clock tonight to have their say.
A white ballot paper will be given asking voters if they wish to abolish the Seanad, while a Green paper will ask if they want to establish a court of appeal.
A polling card is not necessary to vote, acceptable proof of identity may be.
