Reduction In Under-25s Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare

There’s been a 6% drop in the number of people under the age of 25 on the live register in Clare.

The latest CSO figures show there were 519 under 25s claiming some form of unemployment benefit in the county in March.

Overall live register figures across the county are also down, as Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill reports.

 

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 5,093 people claiming unemployment benefit in Clare in March, a drop of just over 200 on the previous month.

All areas of the county saw a decrease in the numbers signing on, with the vast majority in the Ennis area, where there’s now 2,440 on the live register.

1,265 adults joined the doles queues in North Clare, 795 in West Clare and 593 in the East of the county.

The number of people aged under 25, who are now claiming unemployment benefit, dropped by 34 last month, though the number is still 39% higher than the same month last year.

The highest number was again in the Ennis area, where there were 255 under-25s signing. In the north of the county there were 114 and in the west and east there were 106 and 44 respectively.
