It’s claimed the decision to scale back a Government-aided farming scheme could cost the Clare economy almost five million euro.

The Minister for Agriculture has announced the latest renewal of the Agri-Environment Options Scheme will have an expenditure limit of 25 million euro, rather than 50 million as announced by the previous administration.
The IFA says this means the 650 Clare farmers leaving REPS-3 will now receive a maximum payment of 3,000 euro, rather than the previous limit of 7,000.
The Association’s Rural Development Chairman Tom Turley feels the decision will have a knock-on effect for all of the county
