The number of women accessing refuge services through Clare Haven peaked in 2025.
The organisation’s latest annual report shows almost 100 women were admitted to the charity’s domestic abuse services last year.
Refuge is an emergency crisis service provided by Clare Haven for any woman or child at immediate risk of, or fleeing domestic abuse.
When re-admissions were also included, 125 total adult admissions were recorded throughout last year, while 120 children had to avail of childcare based refuge services.
Clare Haven noted that all variables related to refuge services peaked in 2025, with 953 one to one support sessions taking place.
This meant that total admissions, along with the number of children accessing refuge supports were also at their highest level ever recorded last year.
In 2025, Clare Haven couldn’t accommodate 125 requests for help due to the refuge being at maximum capacity or a suitable room not being available.
The report also notes a further 536 women availed of Clare Haven support outside of refuge, which includes satellite services and outreach clinics.
Additionally , the charity facilitated 249 court accompaniments for 119 service users.
Clare Haven is currently progressing plans for a new refuge centre in collaboration with Clare County Council and various housing agencies.
