Record Home Commencements In Clare In First Ten Months Of 2023

The number of residential properties undergoing construction work in Clare jumped by over 60% this year.

New figures published in the Department of Housing’s monthly report show that shovels went into ground at almost 40 properties here last month.

When local authorities receive word a person’s carrying out works or changing use of a building, they’re issued with a commencement notice.

The number of refurbishments, extensions and alterations carried out in this county in the first ten months of the year had a slight increase compared to 2022.

In October, 23 commencement notices were issued in Clare with works subsequently commencing on 37 residential units.

This adds up to 495 residential construction starts in the first ten months of 2023 compared to just 303 in the same period last year.

This 63% increase in residential unit commencments is also a record when compared to similar periods since the data series began in 2015.

In addition, the number of one-off dwellings constructed in Clare was 20 last month, bringing the figure for 2023 so far to 167.

Nationally, over 26,500 homes have been commenced in the first ten months of 2023 which is an over 16% increase on the same period last year.
