Reassurances That People In Clare Won’t Have To Travel Far For Covid Vaccine

A Shannon doctor believes people will still be able to attend their GP for their Covid-19 jab, once mass vaccination centres open.

It follows criticism of the location of some of the mass vaccination centres, amid fear that some people will have to tavel some distance to get the jab.

The Taoiseach has defended the locations.

37 vaccine centres are to be rolled out nationwide with at least one planned for every county, but there has been criticism over some of the locations.

Concern has been raised that people in rural areas of Galway will have to travel to the city or Castlebar for an injection, while many of those in Limerick will have to travel to Clare.

Limerick’s centre is the Radisson Blu hotel, which lies on the Clare side of the county divide, and Independent TD Richard O’Donoghue believes there were better options available inside the county.

The Taoiseach has defended the location of the centres, though there’s been no controversy over the location of the other centre here in Clare.

It will be based at Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis, and preparatory work is currently underway ahead of the opening.

The Managing Director of Treacy’s West County Hotel is Patrick Treacy.

There’s currently no final details of how the centres will operate, or when they’ll begin vaccinations, though it’s expected that people will have to register with their GP or by using their PPS number.

A Clare doctor still expects that people will be given the choice to go to their own GP for the vaccine, even when the centres have opened.

Shannon GP, Dr Yvonne Williams is confident that every effort will be made to accomodate people, but stresses that this is important.
