Clare will be one of the best places in Ireland to witness a rare solar eclipse today, with an event of this magnitude not expected again for more than 60 years.
The Moon will obscure more than 90 percent of the Sun, with the eclipse beginning shortly after 6 o’clock this evening.

Maximum coverage will occur at around 10 past seven, with areas along the Clare coast, the Shannon Estuary and Kilkee offering some of the best views in the county.
Head of the DIAS Planetary Magnetospheres group, Professor Catriona Jackman, says this may be the only chance in our lifetime to see something like this in Clare.
