Rape Crisis MidWest is hopeful that a proposed statutory domestic violence agency will collaborate with local agencies.
Justice Minister Simon Harris brought a memo to Cabinet yesterday on draft legislation to establish an agency next January dedicated to leading awareness against domestic and gender-based violence.
Local agencies recently met with representatives from the Justice department a fortnight ago to provide feedback as to how the state agency should operate.
CEO of Rape Crisis MidWest, Miriam Duffy, says cross-departmental co-operation will be needed to ensure that this approach doesn’t follow in the footsteps of previous failures.
