Rail strike coming down the track on Friday

A train drivers' strike at Irish Rail will go ahead next Friday.

Talks at the Workplace Relations Commission collapsed without resolution at 2 o'clock this morning.

As a result the drivers unions have confirmed, a stoppage will go ahead between 6 and 9am next Friday. 

SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union are set to hold a further 3 hour stoppage on Friday November 6th.

The NBRU says its drivers are owed money for past producitvity – and they have no option but to take industrial action. 

Irish Rail says it's losing one and a half million euro a month – and can't afford any extra payments unless drivers increase productivity further.
