Rail Freight Advocate Believes South East To West Coast Route Will Increase Clare Commerce

West On Track believes an increase in rail freight services will have major economic benefits for Clare.

It comes as works are ongoing to develop a rail freight corridor that would connect the South-East to the West Coast via Foynes Port, passing through the Banner county under Ianróid Eireann’s Rail Freight Strategy for 2040.

Just 1% of Ireland’s freight is currently transported by rail and Ianróid Eireann claim those services are already saving 29,000 lorry journeys per annum.

Colman Ó Raghallaigh from West On Track believes the provision of the route will afford businesses in Clare accessibilty to a wider range of markets.
