There’s set to be further bed closures in Clare as the HSE attempts to reign in budgetary spending across the Mid West.
Five short stay beds at Raheen Community Hospital in Tuamgraney are set to be cut as part of over plans to shut down 65 beds at five separate facilities in Clare Limerick and Tipperary.
Saint Ita’s and St Camillus Hospital in Limerick are set to lose over 30 beds between them while a further 28 are being lost at the community hospital in Thurles and Dean Maxwell home in Roscrea.
In a statement to Clare FM – The Health Service Executive says the reductions are unavoidable as the necessary cut in agency staff and overtime has an inevitable impact on the number of patients the HSE can safely provide for.
However Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara says the decision was taken without any consultation with the local community or local representatives
