Between January and March, €309,310 was spent by the Gardaí in overtime for Clare-based members of the force.

This was just a small portion of the over 21 million euro spent by the force on overtime between January and March.

Details are not yet available for the second quarter, when the overtime spend in Clare is likely to be significantly higher, owing to the visit of President Trump.

A further substantial overtime bill is likely next month, when Vice President Mike Pence is due in Ireland.

Over the past two years, €3.4 million has been spent on Garda overtime here, and the quarterly spend at the beginning of this year is the lowest since the start of 2017.

A further €8,000 was spent on overtime for civilian staff working for the Garda.
