Public Health MidWest Urge Caution Amid Flu Surge

Public Health MidWest is appealing to people to stay at home if they are feeling unwell, due to a surge in influenza cases.

At the beginning of December, just 70 flu cases had been diagnosed in the region, but as of last week this figure has risen to 396.

The HSE is warning that while most children who catch flu will have mild symptoms, it can cause serious illness to others.

Due to the increased level of flu hospitalisations, members of the public are advised to consider all available healthcare options including local pharmacies and Shannon Doc Out of Hours GP Services.
