Donald Trump is set to arrive on Irish shores this November, taking advantage of his trip to Paris for the Armistice anniversary to visit Dublin and Doonbeg.

A programme for the visit has yet to be revealed but it’s likely to take place on November 12th, just a day after our own President is inaugurated.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the news came a little out of the blue but that the President is welcome here.

However, that sentiment is not shared by all.

The Green Party is calling for widespread protesting against Trump’s visit and speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, leader Eamon Ryan had this message for the people of Clare:

The Tánaiste has called on people to respect the office that President Trump holds.

However, he says he has no issue with people protesting his visit and says it’s part of democracy:

In Doonbeg, meanwhile, it’s hoped that the Presidential visit will have a positive impact on the community there, giving them a chance to be showcased to the world.

A number of local residents have given a generally positive reaction to the news of his impending arrival, while General Manager of Trump International Doonbeg Joe Russell believes it’ll be a welcome boost for the tourism sector there.
