Proposed Use Of Vacant HSE Facility In Kilrush Turned Down

The proposed use of a vacant HSE facility in Kilrush by a mental health organisation has been turned down due to health and safety concerns.

West Clare Mental Health Services has lodged a proposal with the HSE to develop a hub at Avonree House on Lime Kiln Road.

Addressing the Seanad, Senator Martin Conway said the service has carried out enormous work in supporting people with mental health issues in West Clare over the past number of years.

The Ennistymon-based Senator says operating out of the vacant facility would be a natural step forward.

The Minister with responsibility for Primary Care, Mental Health and Disability has acknowledged the work of West Clare Mental Health.

But Minister Kathleen Lynch says due to a number of structural issues, the HSE cannot approve the use of Avonree House by the organisation.
