Proposal Rejected For Killaloe Bypass Pedestrian Crossing

A proposal for a pedestrian crossing on the Killaloe Bypass has been rejected.

The Killaloe Bypass section of the Shannon Bridge Crossing, which stretches from the Scariff Road to the Shauntraud Roundabout, has been open to traffic since the middle of December.

At this month’s meeting of Killaloe Municipal District, local Fianna Fáil Councillor Tony O’Brien has called for a crossing to be installed between the Creevroe and Hill Road junctions on the route.

The motion has been denied on the basis that the design speed of 80 kilometres per hour exceeds standards for the provision of pedestrian crossings, but Councillor O’Brien believes safety must come first.
