Theresa May’s told EU leaders she doesn’t want to delay Brexit to allow more time for withdrawal talks.
A British government spokesman says she discussed it “briefly” with Germany’s Angela Merkel at a meeting in Egypt, and insisted a deal can be done by the March 29th deadline.
But Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD has predicted that an announcement will be made on a delay to Brexit in the coming days.
There’s increased speculation that London will seek to to delay Brexit, as the March 29th deadline draws nearer.
Theresa May has delayed a Commons vote on the issue by two more weeks, and now reports say a new plan by some Conservative MPs would see Britain’s departure postponed until May to “conclude negotiations.”
There has even been some suggestion of pushing it back by up to 21 months.
Mrs May has discussed the possibility of delaying Britan’s exit with German leader Angela Merkel during a meeting in Egypt today, but it wasn’t the focus of it.
She’s also due to discuss the issue with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
Mrs May has said she doesn’t want to delay Brexit, but Former Irish ambassador to the UK, Bobby McDonagh, says time is running out for a deal to be agreed.
It’s unlikely that there will be any substantive developments today, but Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD has predicted an announcement in the near future.
