The prohibition order for swimming in Kilkee has been lifted by Clare County Council this lunchtime.
It comes after the instruction not to bathe in the resort’s beach waters was in place by the local authority following HSE advice for almost a week.
It’s believed samples taken from the water today have been cleared, and swimmers will now be allowed to take the sea in time for what’s expected to be the warmest weekend so far this year.
Clare County Council are advising that the safest place to swim is at lifeguarded locations, with those services set to commence again on Saturday, 5th June.
Kilkee-based Fianna Fail councillor Cillian Murphy says long term issues with wastewater in the area still urgently need to be addressed.
