Pro life campaigners say the new abortion legislation – ignores the evidence given by health experts at the abortion hearings.
Under the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill – which was published late last night, no medical institution will be allowed to refuse a woman a termination if her life is in danger.
Medical abortions will be allowed if the woman’s life is at risk because of suicide – but she must first be assessed by three specialists – two psychiatrists and one obstetrician.
In the Dáil earlier, many backbench TDS claimed they’ve been threatened by pro life lobbyists – something which Pro-Life Campaign spokesperson Caroline Simons denies:
