Pro-Choice Campaigners Set Off On “Abortion Bus”

Pro-Choice campaigners will deliberately break Ireland's abortion laws today as they try to force a constitutional change.

Activists will board a so-called 'Abortion Bus' which will tour the country telling women how to access illegal terminations, and link them up with doctors who'll prescribe abortion pills.

Under the current legislation abortion is still illegal in this country, except when doctors decide there is a real and substantial risk to the life of a suicidal mother.

The supply of information is also strictly controlled, with tight restrictions surrounding who can give out abortion advice and what they can say.

Rita Harrold from the pro-choice group ROSA will be on the bus when it sets out from Dublin's Central Bank this morning – she says the law is simply out of date.
