Prisoner Remains On The Loose Following Escape From Ennis Courthouse

A prisoner remains on the loose after escaping from Ennis Courthouse yesterday.

The 22-year old man and another inmate of Limerick prison made their escape after having their cases heard at Ennis District Court.

Jason Freyne of Ash Avenue, Carew Park, Limerick fled from Ennis Courthouse after a second man; 18 year old prisoner, Keith Garrihy of Beechgrove, Newmarket on Fergus, who escaped the building and ran for the gate moments earlier.

Mr Garrihy was picked up by Gardai in Clarecastle just before 5pm yesterday.

Jason Freyne, who has 46 previous convictions, was before the court on a dangerous driving charge and was due to be sentenced at a later date 

He and Keith Garrihy were being returned to the prison cells at the courthouse when they made their escape.

CCTV footage has been examined and the Irish Prison Service has confirmed that the matter is being investigated.
