Pressure Grows On TDs To Forgo 2017 Pay Rise

Pressure is mounting on TDs to forego a pay rise that is due to them from next April.

The payment has been criticised in the aftermath of the budget, which has seen pensioners forced to wait until March or April to receive the top-up in their payments.

TDs are due to receive an extra 2,700 in their salaries next year, and a further increase of the same amount in 2018, but already Ministers have been told to waive their salary boosts.

TDs are currently paid 87,000 euro a year, an amount that has been defended by former Clare TD, Independent Councillor James Breen.
