President Leads Tributes To Anthony Foley

The Irish flag is flying at half mast at Áras Contae an Chlár this afternoon following the death of Anthony Foley.

The 42-year old Killaloe man and Munster Head Coach passed away suddenly in Paris in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Tributes have been pouring in from across the political and sporting spectrums.

The President of Ireland is leading tributes to sporting legend Anthony Foley, who passed away in Paris over the weekend.

Michael D. Higgins has described him as "one of the great figures of Irish Sport in the modern era" saying he "made a huge contribution to the success of Munster and Ireland".

A Killaloe native, Anthony touched the hearts of many in his local community.

He was a member of Smith O'Brien's GAA Club, winning a Junior Football medal in 2010.

Club Secretary and Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe Municipal District, Tony O'Brien says he'll be sadly missed.

Anthony Foley also played for Shannon Rugby Club, who have described him as one of their favourite sons.

He made his debut for the club in the mid 90s before going on to win four AIL titles in a row

Chairman John Leahy says he was born into greatness.

Consular assisance is being provided to Anthony Foley's family, following his sudden death, and efforts to repatriate his body home are due to get underway today.

Anthony is survived by his wife Olive, two sons, and extended family.
