Preparations are in full swing for the second annual Caitríona Lucas Challenge, in memory of the late coastguard volunteer who died almost three years ago.
Last year saw four people, including Caitríona’s husband Bernard, climb the highest peak in each county in Ireland – but this year, a group of six are travelling the Greenland for the Arctic Circle Challenge.
It will see them walk 100 miles in complete wilderness, carrying their own food and camping supplies, all in aid of the Burren Chernobyl Project.
Bernard Lucas says it’s the isolation of the trip that drew him to the challenge:
A fundraising concert, by performers including Sean Keane, takes place at the Falls Hotel, Ennistymon on Friday June 28th.
