A Labour MEP for Ireland South is calling for Eamon Gilmore to be replaced immediately as party leader.
Phil Prendergast says the Tánaiste's leadership is in a "state of chronic inability" – and urgent action is needed if the party is to salvage any European seats.
She says Eamon Gilmore's current approach could be fatal to Labour, and thinks it's time for him to be replaced by Joan Burton.
It comes as a new poll shows seven out of ten voters are unhappy with how the government is running the country.
The Millward Brown poll for the Irish Independent finds that Fine Gael remains the country's most popular party, on 25 per cent – with Fianna Fáil on 23, Sinn Féin on 21, and Labour on just 6 per cent.
It also finds that Micheal Martin and Gerry Adams are the most popular party leaders, with a satisfaction rating of 34 per cent each. Just 18 per cent of voters are satisfied with Mr Gilmore's leadership
1,500 voters were sampled for the poll, which was taken last Tuesday and Wednesday.
