The Taoiseach says pre clearance facilities at Shannon Airport are vital to the Mid West economy

 

Brian Cowen was speaking at the start of a Dail debate last night on the legislation on which will give effect to the introduction of full US Pre Clearance facilities at Shannon.

 

The Aviation and Pre-Clearance Bill was officially put before the Oireachtas last to allow for the service to get up and running at Shannon Airport by the end of this month.

 

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey says it’s a vote of confidence in the airport’s future.

 

However Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey warned that its full potential must be utilised if it’s to be a success
