He’s told the inquest how Savita shed tears of happiness when she saw her baby on the monitor during an ultrasound 17 days before her death.

Ten days later she was admitted to UHG with back pain and was told she was miscarrying her baby and that it would all be over in hours.

In the days that followed Praveen said Savita twice asked for a termination but was told by her consultant Dr Katherine Astbury ‘this is Catholic country we are bound by the law, we can’t terminate while foetus is still alive’

The 31 year old died on October 28th last, having contracted septicaemia and E.coli following the miscarriage.

Before today’s hearing began, Praveen told reporters he has faith in the inquest.
