Clare County Council is warning of the presence of a potentially “lethal” algal bloom at Lough Derg.
The bloom is understood to be specifically located at Ballycuggeran, Killaloe and Mountshannon.

The algae which produces harmful toxins that can cause skin irritation and nausea is easily recognised as a pea-green paint like scum, which forms close to or on the shoreline.
The local authority is continuing to monitor the situation and says that all animals especially dogs should be kept away as it may be lethal.
