A 49 year old woman, who was murdered outside her home in Roscommon Town yesterday, has been named locally as Ann Henry.
The mother of two sons was found in a collapsed state, with multiple stab wounds in a housing estate in the Abbeytown area at around 2.30 yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead by 4pm.
A postmortem is due to take place on her body later today at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
A man in his 20s has been arrested by Gardaí and is currently being questioned at Roscommon Town Garda Station.
A murder investigation has been launched and Gardai say they’re following a definite line of enquiry.
