‘Postcode Lottery’ Affecting Dementia Services In Clare

It’s claimed dementia patients in Clare are being forced to wait 11 months on a diagnosis, because of a “postcode lottery” affecting services.

Half of all counties, including this one, don’t have specialist memory clinics, where a GP would refer them for specific dementia tests – most Clare patients would be treated in Newcastle West.

It’s estimated that 55,000 people are living with dementia in Ireland, with that figure projected to rise to over 130,000 in the next 25 years.
