Possible Post-Brexit Duty Free Boost For Shannon

Shannon Airport could be in line for a Brexit boost.

It’s after the Finance Minister Paschal Donohue confirmed that, in the event of a No Deal Brexit, duty-free shopping will return for people travelling from Ireland to the UK.

Four of Shannon’s six busiest routes are to the UK, and last year over 340,000 passengers flew from there to Britain.

After a No Deal Brexit, they’ll be able to avail of excise and VAT free sales on purchases of tobacco and alcohol, subject to certain limits.

Duty-Free shopping was pioneered by the late Brendan O’Regan, and was offered to travellers at Shannon in a world’s first move from 1947.
