The number of new projects getting underway here so far this year has fallen by 1%, but this compares favourably with the national average of 10%, according to statistics contained in the National Housing Construction Index compiled by Link2Plans.
It comes as a separate study, from Ulster Bank, shows a first rise in activity in the Irish construction sector in six years.
The bank’s Construction Purchasing Managers Index shows the sector returned to growth in September, rising above break-even level for the first time since May 2007.
