12-hundred voters, over the age of 18 were asked their opinions on abortion in face to face interviews on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

When researchers tallied their numbers they found that most people do want some change – but the door hasn’t been opened for so-called abortions ‘on demand’.

28 per cent think the 8th amendment should be repealed so the Dáil is given the power to legislate for terminations.

However 38 per cent believe we could get greater access to abortion by replacing the 8th not scrapping it.

16 per cent don’t want the amendment to be repealed.

While 18 per cent just aren’t sure.

The Citizen’s Assembly to consider the issue meets again this weekend.
