Govt Called On To Introduce PSO To Save Post Office Network

The Government is being called on to introduce a Public Service Obligation to save the country’s Post Office Network from terminal decline.

A motion tabled by four Fianna Fáil Oireachtas members, including Clare TD Cathal Crowe and Senator Timmy Dooley received unanimous backing at the party’s parliamentary party meeting last evening.

It follows confirmation by An Post that the Post Office in Broadford, which provided a service in the East Clare area for over 190 years, is to remain closed.

A group comprising TDs and Senators will now be set up within the Fianna Fáil party to work with Minister Michael McGrath and other stakeholders on the matter and Deputy Cathal Crowe is hopeful the action will help avert closures.
