Government Called On To Ensure No Gender Gap Involved In Auto-Enrol Pension Scheme

A Clare Fianna Fáil general election candidate is urging the government to review its upcoming auto-enrol pension scheme to ensure there is no gender gap involved.

From 2022, all workers in Ireland will be enrolled in pension schemes where they will pay 1.5% of their earnings into a pension pot, rising to 6% after 10 years.

This will be matched by employers for salaries of up to €75,000 but it has led to some concern now about women ending up with less to live off in old age because of gaps in employment for caring for a loved one.
