Clare TD Calls For Landmark Policy Change To Disabled Driver And Passenger Scheme

A Clare TD claims thousands of carers are being let down by the unfair eligibility criteria of the disabled drivers and passengers support scheme.

Successful applicants can receive up to €1,446 per annum to put towards fuel costs, however only family members of the dependent and those bearing a primary medical certificate can avail of the grant.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has this week pledged to examine the case of a Kilkee carer who despite living with and providing daily transport to a disabled man, cannot access any support funding.
